There is 構文の使い方

聞き手にとって初めて知る人やものの存在を伝える表現。

既知の情報・特定可能なものや固有名詞には基本使わない。

例：携帯が椅子の上にあります → There is a phone on the chair.

　　私の携帯が椅子の上にあります → My phone is on the chair.

例：猫がベンチにいます → There is a cat on the bench.

　　私の猫がベンチにいます → My cat is on the bench.

※「～があります」というと日本人はすぐ"There is ..."を使ってしまいがちだけど

　 固有名詞のときは注意。
