But you must promise to keep it to yourself, OK?
【Tammy】Sure.
【Ryan】I'm getting married next month. *2
【Tammy】Married? Conguratulations! To whom? *3

◎Today's Key Sentence◎
I want to tell you some big news. [話がある]
But you must promise to keep it to yourself, OK? [秘密にしてもらいたい]
(あなたにニュースを伝えたいのです。でもあなたはそれを秘密にしておくと約束しなければなりません、いいですか？)
・tell は「告げる・教える・伝える」。
その後ろに目的語が2つある(you と some bignews)。
目的語が2つある場合は、「誰々に何々をあげる･くれる」という授与の意味がある
・promise これからすることを約束するので、"これから"という感触のある to不定詞が 続く。
・keep it to yourself の it は"その秘密"を指している。to yourself あなた自身にあるようにkeepしてください = (秘密を)漏らさないでください。

・日本語の「私とあなただけのことにしておいて下さいね」と全く同じ表現。

But please keep it under your hat. Understood? [秘密にしてもらいたい]
・keep の後ろは目的語説明型なので it = under your hat 。そのハットの下に伏せておいてくださいよ = 秘密にしておいてくださいよ
・Understood は過去分詞で、Is that understood? の略。「私の言い分は理解されましたか？」

*1 Actually
・What's new?「何か変わったことあった？」 という挨拶は実はあんまり変わったことがないだろうと思っている。それに対して「実はね…」と相手の期待に反することを持ち出す。それがこの Actually という表現の持ち味。
*2 'm getting married
・married の状態になる、という意味。
・この進行形は、こうした予定をしていますよ という意味。現在行っているという意味ではない。

・whom はちょっとフォーマルで今はあまり使われていない。
・To who? でも良い。
*4 She's someone I became friends with through social media.
・語順通り理解していこう。
She’s someone 彼女は誰か → どういう誰かかを後ろの説明でゆっくりしていけばよい
